Temporal Abstraction:

The idea that time can be frozen, extracted and reproduced in a visual medium.

In the school of Temporal Abstractionism, artists freeze and render time into the physical world, whether it be through paint on canvas, food sculpture, music, or another medium. Through their work, they invite viewers to experience memories, feelings, and other artifacts of time in the same way the artist does.

Artists in the School of Temporal Abstraction use their own techniques and methods, but the metaphysical concept of
time as a jumping off point, and the end goal of expressing that time in the physical world connect the artists.

“Set of strokes, layers of paint and preservation of contrasts are some of the constant elements in my pictorial activity; whose interrelationship shows timelessness and the dance of sensations/perceptions stimulating the observer to transcend the work itself, because the pulsating of the contrast between life and death and navigating the seas of the unconscious: it is the main objective not only to expose but mainly to perform, as a sacred mission.”

You can change the position of the piece as and when you want, so that’s why the dimensions may be reversed. This is what you need to do eventually: reverse dimensions.

Be happy.

This is, in my understanding, the main tool of Temporal Abstractionism

- Carlos Adissi, from the book "Temporal Abstractionism: A brief contemplation of time"

Seja feliz.

Essa é no meu entender a ferramenta principal do Abstracionismo Temporal

Artists who are a part of the School of Temporal Abstraction use their own techniques and methods, but the metaphysical concept of time as a jumping off point, and the end goal of expressing that time in the physical world connect the artists.

"I'm sitting in a traffic jam, and I can see into the future.

Not just a few cars ahead of me, but miles ahead, where I'll be in a few minutes, an hour... I can see the accident and the emergency vehicles and what it will look like when I get there.

And then I bring myself back into my body, I can see into the past, to where I've been. All the cars behind me piling up, I feel the frustration and the tension, and I know what they know, I am them and they are me. They are my past, and I am their present and their future.

And I take that, the build up of the moment: the knowledge of the future, and the feelings of the present, and I paint.

That is Temporal Abstraction. "

          - Bruno DaVenzia

As an organization, the Janus Gallery has chosen to focus on artists who consider themselves Temporal Abstractionists, and have invited artists doing pioneering work in this space to be a part of the Janus collective.

Brazilian Artist Carlos Adissi looks at timelines from the end, accepting the nature of reality, and working backwards in order to vividly capture the waves of time.  He uses music and dance as a way of rooting himself to the earth as well as sending his soul out into cosmos

By creating his own materials by hand, Bruno DaVenzia is able to center himself at his starting position.  By letting the physical world seep into his work, he is then able to separate himself from time and view it from all angles while painting.

Nima Veiseh linearly layerizes every nuance of a moment and memory to create his works. He uses the physical nature of canvas - it's weight and it’s layers of paint - to mimic the layers of memory as he expands and explodes a single moment out into the world.

The Janus Collective all have unique ways of experiencing and expressing time. They are visionaries.  When they look at a  canvas, they understand how to manipulate the time-space continuum so that you, the viewer, can experience their understanding of time with them.
